Living Christ Retreat

Thank you to all who attended and participated in our Parish Living Christ Retreat Friday 14th/ Saturday 15th October 2016.

Thank you to all of the team of helpers who organised and enabled the Retreat to be a success.

A Prayer for the Retreat
A Prayer for the Retreat

A Retreat?  ln its most common usage the term sounds like someone is giving up!  However, nothing could be further from the truth; it is a "time-out" with friends; to spend time with Christ and to be open to receiving something of the spiritual gifts given by God to the apostles at the first Pentecost.  A kind of spiritual gym session, leaving you feeling fit, refreshed and ready to live life to the full to carry on Christ's mission in your particular circumstances.

To be of greatest value, experience elsewhere, has shown that numbers attending any one event should be no more than 48 (8 groups of 6 people), plus retreat leaders.  Any commitment to attend should also be for the entire event.

The retreats and refreshments are provided free of charge to participants.

If you wish to be considered for future retreats or to help in any way, please contact us on

 October 2016

·         The Retreat offers an opportunity to stop, listen, reflect and share if you want to.  At the end it offers you the chance to Change.

 ***********

·         It has been a very thoughtful and interesting experience, a chance to explain our own personal thoughts in a judgement free and peaceful environment.  The sessions were so interesting and truly useful in reflection upon our own lives with wonderful people and Dee is a star.

***********

·         The retreat has been very uplifting, challenging, good for my spiritual growth.  We are just on this life journey.  Enjoy, love and grow in His Grace.

 ***********

·         Today I have enjoyed talking and listening and learning from people who are like minded.  Thank you for the opportunity to tell my story.

 ***********

·         Challenging trying to answer questions but very spiritually helpful. Lovely people, Great food.

 ***********

·         A truly uplifting retreat such a lot of lovely words, music and stories brought tears to my eyes with the love and compassion and openness of people reaching out.  Thank you so much.  God Bless.

***********

·         Thought-provoking, inspiring, peaceful

 ***********

·         A lovely experience – great grouping, meaningful discussion.  Great hearing people’s experiences of God and faith in their lives. More brown bread in the sandwiches.  Well done everyone hard work – much appreciated.

***********

·         This is the second retreat I attended. This time I found the discussions more thought provoking.  I think because people’s views were more diverse and we digressed a lot.  I have found or have confirmed what my true calling is. It has been something that entered my mind on a few occasions and now I know.  Paul’s talk was very inspirational.  Thank you for this retreat.  Thank You Lord.

 ***********

·         My “thoughts” on our Retreat cannot be explained in words, I have been emotionally affected BUT I feel a sense of peace in myself.  Again, I think the retreat has been wonderful. Thank You to each one of you for the wonderful retreat.  Here’s to 2017!

 ***********

·         A very uplifting experience helped me to focus on the important aspects of Faith.  Inclusive and good community group, a sense of belonging.

***********

·         I have attended 3 retreats now and each one has been special in its own way.  The Team have worked very hard in order to achieve a high standard of presentation.  Congratulations to all of you.  Jim, as ever, is inspirational and we are so lucky to have someone with such Faith and a good sense of humour.  I myself need a constant reminder to be a good enough Christian/Catholic and the retreat works for me, I hope I can live up to the ideals and keep the Faith in the way that our Lord taught us.  God Bless everyone.

 ***********

·         I enjoyed the weekend very much, it has given me lots to think about and hopefully give me more strength to grow my Faith and love God more.

***********

·         My first visit to the retreat and it has been very enjoyable and uplifting. Team Leaders are friendly and helpful and make the process a very good experience. Listening to Margaret and Paul’s journey of faith although different was a thought provoking experience.  The painting of the Prodigal Son made me think more deeply about the painter’s intentions in the way he captured the characters.

 ***********

·         Really, enjoyed the weekend, it was lovely to meet new people, some very inspirational – also getting to know people I have known for years better.  Gospel readings were lovely, people’s experiences very uplifting, thank you to everybody who organised it.  PS lovely buffet

Congratulations and thanks to you for your generosity and willingness to be open and vulnerable in your presentations.  It gives those participating ‘permission’ to be the same.  On a personal note, this retreat has been so necessary and valuable.  A place to think, cry, laugh and be with a fab group of people.

***********

I hadn’t wanted to come having done this before – not that I didn’t like it, just that I felt I’d been there.  I am glad I came & God was instrumental through a number of people to get me here.  The second verse of the poem in the Healing Service particularly spoke to me and had me crying in a way I knew was a “releasing”.  Thanks to all the team for all your efforts in following “your” Gods calling.

***********

Thank you all so much for all your hard work.  The wonderful food.  Physical & spiritual, so much to take away and spend time thinking about.  God Bless you all.

***********

We were made to feel very welcome, food was amazing.  Retreat was great would come again.  Thank you.

***********

Wonderful experience, lovely food & atmosphere, we need to tell the story of our experiences to a wider community, down to earth,  not “preachy”.  We need to use another word instead of “retreat” to describe the experience and encourage others to join in.

***********

I have enjoyed my time at the retreat and got a lot out of it, a lot of meaning and understanding of prayer.  I would love to go to another one again, it has brought me closer to God.

Welcome, Friendship, Sharing

I really enjoyed this weekend retreat.  Meeting new people, sharing thought, feeling and just reflections of Christ in our day to day life.  A very nice & solemn reading of Gospels and people’s experiences in life.  I was very glad I attended it.

***********

Thank you to all who have put so much into the organising of the weekend.  Truly inspirational and thought provoking.  Thank you.

We felt……… Special, Happy, Together in Faith, Made Friends, Complete & a Lighter Soul.

***********

The retreat has helped me to focus on what is important – Thank you

***********

Thank you to all the “team” for a truly inspirational time.

***********

I found the retreat very releasing and it has enriched my Faith.  I have enjoyed meeting other people with similar thoughts and from different walks of life.  The preparations and presentation was very well done.  Thank you for a lovely retreat.  God Bless.

Welcoming, Thoughful, Comfortable, Peaceful, Well Fed

I wanted a day away from the pressures of the world and I have definitely had it.  The general ambiance was wonderful, catering excellent.  I have made one resolution which I hope to be able to keep.

2014:

"On reflecting about our recent retreat I feel a sense of spirituality that I have not fully experienced before, I am hoping that this will continue to help me in my faith journey, and therefore allow me to grow with confidence as a practicing Catholic."

"I enjoyed the retreat and meeting new people. It was very thought provoking and encouraged us all to share our feelings. There was a nice balance between sessions and refreshment breaks. I would recommend attending to develop your relationship with other members of the parish"

"Absolutely wonderful! When is next one?"
