Minutes of the Meeting of the Parish Council

Tuesday 3rd April 2018 at 7.30pm

1          Welcome and Opening Prayer

V M welcomed everyone to the meeting and M H 1 led the opening prayer.

3         Matters Arising From Minutes

 

As the position of Chair of the Parish Council is still vacant, V M agreed to Chair the meeting.

 

The minutes from the meeting of the Parish Council held on 6th March 2018 were accepted. V M confirmed that N B of the NW ambulance service had confirmed that for reasons of confidentiality he could not identify who had used the defibrillator recently but he did confirm that the defibrillator was now back in its box in the church car park and in full working condition.

 

M H 2 had sent a note to notify the Parish Council that the changes proposed at the emergency meeting of the Parish Council on 13th March 2018 could not be carried out and the actions had been cancelled.    

 

4        Appointment of new Chair

 

As there was no further progress on the appointment of a new Chair for the Parish Council, the Parish Council agreed that it would remain on the agenda for future meetings until a new Chair could be appointed.

 

5       Eucharistic Conference 2018

 

There was no update on this item. M H 1 remained as the sole representative of the parish at the Eucharistic Conference in Liverpool in September 2018.    

 

6       Liturgy Planning

 

M H 2 had sent a note to the meeting notifying the Parish Council of arrangements for conducting services in the parish in the next few weeks. 

 

 

 

 

6       Liturgy Planning (continued)

 

M H 2 also raised the issue of assistance that the parish should provide for the visiting priests in her note.

 

The Parish Council confirmed that altar servers were providing support to the visiting priests at each Mass. J J G confirmed that there was a list of Mass preparation on the wall in the Sacristy to help the altar servers identify what was needed to prepare for each of the services.

 

The Parish Council identified a number of parishioners who were also currently helping with the Mass preparations and this was also working well.

 

The Parish Council confirmed that church key holders would ensure that the church was locked after Mass. V M agreed to print off a reminder notice to key holders which she would have laminated and put up in the Sacristy.

 

The Parish Council agreed that the Holy Hour scheduled for 15th April should be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date to be agreed with M H 2.

 

7        A leaflet for New Homes in the Parish

 

A W had drafted a leaflet that could be put through the doors of the new homes in the Parish. The Parish Council agreed with the format of the leaflet and thanked A W for his work in preparing the leaflet.

 

A W would now finalise the leaflet and have it ready for distribution when the final decision to give them out was made by the Parish Council.

 

8        Updating of Church Website

 

V M notified the Parish Council that she needed help with operating the church website and in particular updating the e-mail address for the site.

 

The Parish Council agreed that every effort should be made to find someone with the necessary website skills to assist V M updating the operation of the website.

 

J J G agreed to raise the matter at the next meeting of St. Peters PPTA.

Matters Arising From Minutes

 

As the position of Chair of the Parish Council is still vacant, M H agreed to Chair the meeting.

 

The minutes from the last meeting of the Parish Council held on 6th February  2018 were accepted.

 

Dates in diary for Holy Hours : Sundays at 4pm-5pm  15th April; 13th May; 15th July. There are resources available for these Holy Hours.

15th July may clash with Lourdes Fundraising : Vintage Tea on Church Lawn. Date could be revised

 

Quarantore 3rd June

 

Lenten CaFE talks have been well attended. Final 2 are planned for 8th and 15th March. There have been positive comments from attendees.

 

Cafod representative who spoke at weekend masses was very impressed by our Parish and felt welcomed.

 

Faith in Action – cancelled 5th March meeting

Handing in for final piece of work is 1st May. It is thought that this is achievable.

2nd July will be award ceremony at Lowe House.

 

3       Appointment of new Chair

No further progress on the appointment of a new Chair for the Parish Council and it would remain on the agenda for future meetings until a new chair could be appointed.

 

4       Eucharistic Conference 2018

On next month’s / April agenda.

 

 

5       A leaflet for New Homes in the Parish

This was in Church Bulletin 25th February with no response. Two SPAM members have offered help.  On next meeting /April agenda.

 

 

6       Updating of Church Website

V M reported that Minutes of SPAM meetings will be loaded on website once approved, after each monthly meeting. Names will be replaced with initials.

 

  • Most of the empty sections and all newsletters 2017 have been removed.
  • The message about "Open Door" during Lent is updated
  • If anyone wishes to send me information for each of the Sacraments, possibly about the Sacraments and how to access them?? I will add the information.
  • The "Lourdes" page has information for 2016. If anyone has information to add to update for this year I will add that.
  • Frank Hawley offered a new photo for the banner across top of website.

 

7       Parish Groups / Helpers List Update

V M thanked those who have updated lists. The printed copies will be kept in Presbytery Office.

 

8       AOB / Date of next meeting

Living Christ Retreat

S O proposed that we develop the retreat, suggestion that the first evening /session be Faith Journey as before.

Second day could be refreshed using Gospel or life of an exemplar, for example St Theresa of Lisieux or Ignatious Loyola.

“Faith in Action” programme are mini retreats. These could be used as basis of the retreat.

 

St Bridget’s are holding a retreat day at cost of £10 per person. (12th May 2018:  An Ecumenical retreat day – “The Fire, the well and the cloak.  A day exploring the spirituality of St Bridget of Kildare”)

 

Eucharistic Congress- putting faith into action, would tie in with theme in 2019. S A  went to El Salvadore and is Justice and Peace lead for Liverpool. M H suggested that he would possibly facilitate a session. Iraneus website has useful information.

 

Suggested dates for St Peter’s retreat are Lent 2019 or September / October 2019

 

Vegetarian cook book

M H reported that there is approx £20 profit which could be sent to St Joseph’s  or given to M E who put the books together. It was suggested that ME would prefer to give his time and that we just send a thank you card. It was agreed that the profit be given to St Joseph’s Family Centre.

 

Defibrillator

It was reported that the defibrillator was used on Friday 2nd/ Saturday 3rd March in a 999 call. V M is liaising with NHS ambulance service to ascertain when it was used.

It was discussed whether we report to Woolston Parish Council that it has been used. As we don’t yet know the outcome of the use, it was agreed not to report yet.

 

Exposition of Blessed Sacrament

M H reported that in FJ G absence, that she will facilitate this on Saturday 10th March.      .

 

The church doors won’t be left open. The “Open Door” notice will be removed from Church website.

Weekend Masses are covered and weekday Masses / Eucharistic services are in hand for next week.

3         Matters Arising From Minutes

 

As the position of Chair of the Parish Council is still vacant, J G agreed to Chair the meeting.

 

The minutes from the last meeting of the Parish Council held on 6th January 2018 were accepted.

 

A W confirmed that, despite the recent poor weather, the building work in the Memorial Garden had now been completed. There were no other matters arising except those featured on the agenda.

 

4        Appointment of new Chair

 

J G said that there had been no further progress on the appointment of a new Chair for the Parish Council and it would remain on the agenda for future meetings until a new chair could be appointed.

 

5       Eucharistic Conference 2018

 

J G confirmed that M H 1 had volunteered to be one of the two representatives needed to represent the parish at the Eucharistic Conference in Liverpool in September 2018.    

 

6       Holy Hours and banners in preparation for Eucharistic Conference

 

J G said that a small sub group needed to be formed to sort out a programme for the three Holy Hours which the parish is required to hold as part of the year of prayer leading up to the Eucharistic Conference. M H 2 and A W agreed to form the sub group with J G.  

 

J G also notified the Parish Council that a deanery Holy Hour was being held jointly with Widnes deanery on 22 May 2018, further details to follow.

 

The Parish Council agreed that Quarant’ore should be held this year on the feast of Corpus Christi, 3 June 2018.

7        A leaflet for New Homes in the Parish

 

J G explained that a new estate had been built in the parish in Glazebrook. A small team was needed to be established to either call on or distribute a leaflet promoting the parish to the new residents.

 

The Parish Council agreed to the suggestion by A W that a note be put in the church bulletin requesting content to be included in a leaflet and for volunteers to join a team to distribute the leaflets. G R agreed to assist A W with this matter and they would report back to the next meeting of the Parish Council with the responses from the parishioners to determine the way forward.

 

8        Lenten Talks

 

The CAFE Lenten programme of five weekly DVD talks about how Mary fills us with God was due to start on Friday, 16 February 2018 after morning Mass. The Parish Council agreed that attendances at the talks may be better if they were held on a Thursday after morning Mass at about 9.30am.

 

A W agreed to this proposal and the Lenten talks will now start on Thursday, 15 February 2018 at 9.30am and J G proposed that refreshments could be provided before the event.

 

 

9        Updating of Church Website

 

V M notified the Parish Council that the parish website had crashed recently and all the pictures on the website had been lost. There was also a problem with the site’s e-mail address as J G was unable to access the messages left on the site. J G said the IT expert at the School would be asked to have a look at the website to see if the problems could be corrected.

 

V M said that at present the Mass times and weekly church bulletin were the only items being updated on the website. The Parish Council agreed that in future the minutes of the Parish Council meetings would be put on the website with the names of members of the Parish Council in the minutes replaced by their initials.

 

10     Parish Groups / Helpers List Update

 

V M had sent e-mails to all group leaders requesting them to update the lists of Parish Groups and Helpers and return them so that they could be forwarded to J G. The lists are useful to J G for the contact information they provide.

 

11     AOB

J G said that a member of CAFOD had asked if they could attend Mass on the first Sunday of Lent to say thank you to the parishioners for their generous donations to CAFOD. This visit was approved by the Parish Council.

 

M H 2 confirmed that two children had been enrolled for ‘Faith in Action’ this year. Fr. Simon Gore had provided some new material for the lessons and M H 2 would be assisted by S O for the first reflection.
